Russ Jackson was drafted by the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1958 and never missed a game due to injury.

Jackson led Ottawa to the playoffs every year he was with them. He completed 1,356 passes for 24,592 yards and 185 touchdowns in his career. He was the Eastern Football Conference passing leader every year from 1963 thru 1969.

In 1963, Russ Jackson was the first double winner of the Schenley Most Outstanding Canadian and Most Outstanding Player awards.

Russ Jackson is also a member of the Order of Canada the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.

Inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum in 1973 as a player.
