John (Red) O'Quinn came to Canada in 1952 following an all-star careers at Wake Forest University and a short stint in the National Football League (NFL).

During his eight-year career, O'Quinn caught 499 passes (3rd All-Time on the Montreal Alouettes career list) for 7,699 yards (2nd All-Time on the Montreal Alouettes career list) and 34 touchdowns. Also during his career, O'Quinn was the leading pass catcher in 1955, 1957, and 1958 and was the eastern leader in 1959.

The Montreal Alouettes appeared in the Grey Cup against the Edmonton Eskimos in 1954, 1955, and 1956. In the 1954 contest, O'Quinn had 11 receptions for 271 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Once his playing career was finished, O'Quinn was the General Manager with the Ottawa Rough Riders, and later the Montreal Alouettes.

Inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum in 1981 as a player.
