Career Highlights

  • 2nd on the All-Time Canadian Football League (CFL) Most Fumble Return Yards in a career with 118 (as of 2015).

  • Had a 102-yard fumble return on November 11, 1978 against the Montreal Alouettes. This return is a CFL record (as of 2015).

Ben Zambiasi played colleigate football with the University of Georgia, where he was selected as a Southeastern Confernce (SEC) all-Star in 1976. In 1978, Zambiasi was the 10th round selection of the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). Midway through the 1978 season, Zambiasi decided to come to Canada and play for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Zambiasi's first season with Hamilton was exceptional as he was named the Most Outstanding Rookie in the Eastern division in 1978, and received All-Eastern and All-Canadian honours as well. In 1979, Zambiasi won the Schenley Award for the Most Outstanding Defensive Player in the CFL. Zambiasi played in four Grey Cup games and was on the winning side in 1986, when the Hamilton Tiger-Cats defeated the Edmonton Eskimos.

In 1988, Zambiasi joined the cross provincial rivals, Toronto Argonauts and played his final season of an 11-year career in the CFL.

Ben Zambiasi is also a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Walk of Fame, Wall of Honour, and of the University of Georgia's Team of the Century.

Inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum in 2004 as a player.
