Greg Kabat was one of the early imports to play Canadian football. Arriving from the University of Wisconsin in 1933, he was a line coach in addition to playing in the backfield.

Kabat was able to play several positions when necessary. He was a valuable member of the Winnpeg 'Pegs Grey Cup winning squad in 1935. In his second Grey Cup game in 1938, Kabat played the entire game with a broken toe.

During the 1941 season with the Vancouver Grizzlies, Kabat was also the head coach of that team.

Throughout his career, Kabat was also a successful high school football coach.

Inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum in 1966 as a player.
