Career Highlights

  • Number two All-Time in rushing with 16,116 yards (as of 2015).

  • Was the leading rusher in the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1965 - 1969 and in 1974.

  • A member of the 1000 - yard club 11 times (1964 - 1969, 1971 - 1975).


George Reed was a superb running back who made a tremendous contribution to Canadian football. He rushed for more than 1,000 yards in 11 of his 13 seasons for a career total 16,116 yards on 3,243 carries.

Reed was honoured with a day by the city of Regina in 1974.

Reed was the first recipient of the Tom Pate Memorial Trophy, which is presented annually by the Canadian Football League Players Association (CFLPA).

George Reed is also a member of the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.

Inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum in 1979 as a player.
