James (Quick) Parker attended Wake Forest University before beginning his Canadian Football League (CFL) career in 1980 with the Edmonton Eskimos.

In 1981 and 1982, Parker led the CFL in sacks and was named to the western and CFL all-star teams both years.
He remained with Edmonton until 1984 when he joined the BC Lions. In 1984, Parker set the league record for sacks in a season with 26.5. From 1984 until 1986, he would be named to both the CFL and western all-star teams.

Inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum in 2001 as a player.
