Career Highlights

  • An original member of the 1954 BC Lions team.

  • Missed one game in his entire career.

  • 37 career interceptions.

Norm Fieldgate played 223 games at Offensive End, Defensive End, Corner Linebacker, and Defensive Back. What he lacked in physical stature, he made up for in pure talent. He was considered one of the best Canadian corner Linebackers to have played the game. Before starting his 14-year career with the BC Lions, he played his collegiate football with the University of British Columbia (UBC) from 1951 until 1954.

A perennial all-star, he was honoured by Vancouver at "Norm Fieldgate Night" in 1962. When his playing career was finished, he served on the BC Lions Board of Directors.

What does it mean to you to be a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum?
"The notice I received from the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1979 advising me of my selection was a very pleasant surprise and I felt greatly honoured. When you start playing football in high school and follow through junior, your main reason is to have fun and to give your very best effort on every play. Being able to play football in the CFL was a great part of my life. I would like to thank the Canadian Football Hall of Fame for making me part of their heritage."--Norman Fieldgate
