Allen Pitts joined the Calgary Stampeders in 1990, where he spent his entire career with. Pitts appeared in five Grey cup games, winning two. Tall and powerful, Pitts was a deep treat who rarely dropped a pass.

Pitts averaged 15.4 yards per reception and caught touchdown passes in 95 games. During a September 10, 1999 game, Pitts caught a 13 yard pass that made him the Canadian Football League (CFL) all-time receiving leader at that time. When he retired after the 2000 season, Pitts had caught 966 passes for 14,891 yards and 117 touchdowns.

Four times during his career, Pitts was voted the team's outstanding player by Stampeder fans and twice his teammates chose him as the President's Ring recipient for his inspirational and motivational skills.

Pitts was selected all-western six times, a north division all-star once and all-Canadian six times.

In 2004, Pitts had his jersey number 18 retired by the stampeders.

Inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum in 2006 as a player.
