Member Profile - Ray Elgaard

Hall of Fame "What does it mean to you to be a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame?"

Ray Elgaard "Being a member of HOF is very meaningful to me. I grew up in Canada and fondly recall watching great players from the 70's and I recall how important the games and seasons were to me as a young fan. I'm proud of what I accomplished in the game and being in the hall gives a career that final stamp of approval."

Hall of Fame "What are you doing now?"

Ray Elgaard "I live in Las Vegas with my wife and two teenage kids. I work as a financial advisor for professional athletes."

Hall of Fame "Are you still involved in football? (coaching, playing, driving kids to games, or just watching when you can)"

Ray Elgaard "I am involved in football. My work as a financial advisor for athletes keeps me involved in college and pro football. I also have a 15 yr old son who is playing and I've been involved with his teams and his personal development (weights, drills, etc.)"

Hall of Fame "What was your fondest football memory? (could be from any point in your football career)"

Ray Elgaard "Fondest football memory was probably the two years I spent in college at Utah. Had great friends and coaches and was in a big time college sports environment. We ran wild on campus and I sort of felt like a football mercenary who left home to go battle for my school. That's also when football became a serious endeavor for me. "

Hall of Fame " How did you know it was time to leave football?"

Ray Elgaard "Combination of things. Body was getting stiff, wife and kids had relocated to Las Vegas and I was platooning at my position. That's a bad combination. Didn't like it."

Hall of Fame "What do you miss most about playing football?

Ray Elgaard "I miss the competition of it. I considered myself a good player and enjoyed the physical and mental test that goes into the games. I also miss the camaraderie of a team. Working, playing, travelling and socializing with other players from all corners of North America. Great memories."
