Hall of Fame "What does it mean to you to be a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame?"
John Bonk "Being privileged with membership to the CFHOF is the greatest honor one can have bestowed upon them in the great game we call the Canadian Football League. As a youngster growing up in Hamilton, my dream to become a player in the CFL was realized when I became a Hamilton Tiger Cat, and although I spent most of my playing career in Winnipeg, I'm home again where it all began."
Hall of Fame "What are you doing now?"
John Bonk "Currently, I am the owner of JBC Business Development and work in the Hamilton area with local firms in need of sales and business development solutions."
Hall of Fame "Are you still involved in football? (coaching, playing, driving kids to games, or just watching when you can)"
John Bonk "I am a board member with the Hamilton Hurricane junior football program, and support the Hamilton Tiger Cats through the Tiger Town Council."
Hall of Fame "What was your fondest football memory? (could be from any point in your football career)"
John Bonk "Best football memory was defeating the BC Lions in the western final in 1984 when members of the Lions were pre-selling tickets to their victory party. Most rewarding memory was meeting Denis Beaudry, an eight year old boy with cancer, who travelled with the team to our final game in BC and taught us all the meaning of true courage and the power of the human spirit."
Hall of Fame " How did you know it was time to leave football?"
John Bonk "I didn't. It took a group of doctors along with the entire management staff in Winnipeg to convince me to retire in 1986 after suffering a neck injury at the end of the 85 season. It was the right decision."
Hall of Fame "What do you miss most about playing football?
John Bonk "The all for one spirit, of players that have a common goal to be the best; and who treat another like family."
