Jack Matheson

Class of 1986


Winnipeg born, he worked at the Winnipeg Tribune from 1946 to 1980, the last 21 years as its sports editor. As its football writer for 27 years, and one of the strongest supporters of the Canadian Football League, he covered 700 Winnipeg Blue Bombers games and every Grey Cup game since 1953.

He authored the book entitled ‘Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Football’ with Don Jonas in 1973. He was a regular on CJOB’s Football Hotline and served on the selection committee of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum.

Jack Matheson was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum, Football Reporters of Canada wing in 1986.
