Canadian Football Hall of Fame mourns the loss of Ray Nettles

The Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum today mourns the loss of  Ray Nettles who passed away in Jacksonville Florida at the age of 60

Nettles a graduate of the University of Tennessee was a sixth round draft choice of the Miami Dolphins but chose to play in Canada. He started his tenure as an outside linebacker but was later moved to middle linebacker.

He was named All-Western three times and All-Canadian twice.  In 1973, he won the Schenley award as the most outstanding lineman in the CFL after winning the Demarco-Becket Memorial Trophy as the top lineman in the Western division.

Ray spent a majority of his career with the BC Lions, with stops in Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary and Hamilton.

“Today we lost one of our family, I remember watching as a fan and I was always amazed at his intensity on the field, a truly worthy member” Mark DeNobile Executive Director of the Hall of Fame was quoted our thoughts are with Bonnie and his family at this time.
